Calvin Bassey’s performance against Frankfurt in the Europa League final against Rangers on Wednesday night was described as “astonishing” by a former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves.
After 120 minutes of football ended 1-1, Bassey and his Rangers teammates were defeated on penalties by the German side.
Aaron Ramsey missed the game-winning penalty kick, handing the trophy to the Bundesliga club in Sevilla.
Joe Aribo, another Nigerian international, put Rangers ahead in the second half, and the Scottish side had the better of the chances to win before the penalty shoot-out.
Former England midfielder Hargreaves praised the 29-year-performance, old’s saying he is the type of player any teammate, manager, or fan would want on their team.
“Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“That was astonishing, the energy and effort. Everything about his game was fantastic.
“Anyone watching that will be thinking: ‘That’s the kind of player I want in my team”.
