Eguavoen steps down as Super Eagles coach

Augustine Eguavoen, the former interim coach of the Super Eagles, has revealed why Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles’ loss to Tunisia on Sunday was blamed on shoddy officiating, according to Eguavoen.

He argued that Alex Iwobi’s red card was unjustified because the foul was not intentional.

Tunisia advanced to the competition quarterfinals after defeating the Super Eagles by a solitary goal.

Maduka Okoye, the goalkeeper, made an error that led to the goal.

Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles will now face Burkina Faso’s Stallions in the quarter-finals.

When asked about the Eagles’ elimination from the tournament, Eguavoen claimed the team worked well but was hampered by the red card.

On Iwobi’s red card, he said it was obvious that the officiating was not impartial.

Prior to the match, the Super Eagles were considered the favorites to win.

After topping their group with nine points, the Super Eagles qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament.

To win the group, the Eguavoen-led team defeated Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau.
